Osteopathy is a system of diagnosis and treatment of a wide range of medical conditions. It works on the principle that structure and function of the body are reciprocally interrelated and that wellbeing is dependent on the skeleton, muscles, ligaments and connective tissue functioning smoothly together.
Osteopaths aim to restore your body to a state of balance in order to allow the body’s self-healing mechanisms to be effective. Osteopaths achieve this using touch, skilled physical manipulation, stretching mobilisation and soft tissue release in order to increase joint mobility, release muscle tension, reduce inflammation, enhance blood and nerve supply to tissues and this reduce pain and swelling. The osteopath’s next aim is to resolve the initial malfunction that led to the presenting problem.
Treatments can include kinesiology taping, prescription orthotics, gait/postural analysis and massage. Osteopathy can help provide relief for the body’s structural, mechanical and functional problems in people of all ages.Babies may be treated for colic or torticollis, children for growing pains and breathing problems, and pregnant women for pelvic pain, SPD or lower back pain for example.
